Hundreds of children had fun competing in LA Kids Run, part of the LA Marathon
After getting out of bed really early on a Saturday, families brought their children to the “bib pick up” location in Dodger Stadium’s Lot H that opened at 6:30 am. Hundreds of children showed up, aged 3 to 8. The LA Kids Run is a point-to-point race that began at the Los Angeles Marathon start line at 9:45 am and wrapped up at the LA 5K finish line — a race of about a quarter mile created for children.
Among the advice given to the children was to “make sure your bib number is always visible in front of you body and smile when you cross the finish line.” And hundreds of proud parents, friends and neighbors cheered and applauded as the children ran as fast as they possibly could.
Before the LA Kids Run, a crowd showed up to watch or to compete in the LA 5K race that began at 8 am at Dodger Stadium. Jake Martinez and Kim Uhlendorf were the first place finishers of the LA 5K.
LA 5K was open to participants of all ages and abilities, including runners, walkers and strollers, and was popular with families who raced the course together. The course traveled through Elysian Park, from the stadium to Academy Road to Stadium Way to Scott Avenue. Several thousand adults and children joined the fun whether running, walking or being pushed in strollers. All who crossed the finish line were given a finisher medal.
