Employee barricades herself in Baldwin Park middle school; campus evacuated
Olive Middle School in Baldwin Park was evacuated Thursday morning, May 1 after an employee caused a disturbance and barricaded herself inside the front office, police said.
At around 9:45 a.m., Baldwin Park police received a call reporting a woman interrupting the school’s operations, Lt. Evan Martin said.
Students and staff members were evacuated from the campus at 13701 E Olive St. to nearby Walnut Elementary School as a precaution.
Officers initially communicated with the woman, but she later closed the door and barricaded herself inside the office, Martin said.
As of Thursday afternoon, she remained inside.
Officers and an armored vehicle went to the scene, according to ABC7.
Authorities had not yet disclosed what prompted the initial disturbance or what led to the barricade.
“There is no current threat to any students or school personnel,” the department said in a statement. “We strongly advise the public to avoid the area until law enforcement resolves this situation.”
