DOTr chief inspects 3 light rail systems
TRANSPORTATION Secretary Vince Dizon conducted a surprise inspection on Wednesday of Metro Manila's major light rail transit systems — MRT-3, LRT-1 and LRT-2 — to ensure the smooth implementation of the government's "Libreng Sakay" (free ride) program for workers.
The inspection coincided with the first day of the four-day free ride initiative, which will run until May 3 in celebration of Labor Day.
The free ride program, ordered by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., is meant to honor Filipino workers for their continued service and sacrifices.
"The President wanted to make sure our workers are recognized not just in words, but in ways that can ease their daily burdens — even for just a few days," Dizon said during his visit to MRT-3's North Avenue Station.
In this initiative, passengers can ride the MRT-3 free of charge from the first trip at 4:30 a.m. at North Avenue Station to the last train stop at 10:30 p.m. Southbound operations from Taft Avenue begin at 5:05 a.m. and end at 11:09 p.m.
