DepEd boosts flexible learning options
THE Department of Education (DepEd) said it has procured 87 million learning modules and 74,000 tablets to be used by students under flexible learning options (FLO).
FLO provides alternative for students who cannot go to school by using methods tailored to the circumstances and resources of the learner.
"These learning resources are designed to support learners who are studying independently, allowing them to learn at their own pace and make adjustments as needed," Education Secretary Sonny Angara said in a statement on Saturday.
FLO encompasses modular distance learning, online distance learning, blended learning, open high school system, night high school, rural farm school and homeschooling.
Angara said the prompt procurement of the equipment was part of the promise he made during budget deliberations at the House of Representatives in September last year.
"We made a commitment to fast-track learning resources, and we are making good on that promise. EPA (early procurement activities) is more than just a procurement strategy, it is a game changer in making sure no learner is left waiting," Angara said.
The DepEd assured that over 300,000 learners in high- and medium-risk areas in 16 regions would have the necessary resources to continue their education through alternative modalities, in line with the vision of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of ensuring inclusive, accessible and high-quality education for all.
"As we strengthen our alternative education programs, we also make sure that our learners are equipped with crucial educational tools and resources to aid them in their learning and help them reintegrate into the educational system," Angara said.
