Civilian killed, two LAPD officers injured after Sun Valley crash
A 70-year-old man was killed Monday, May 26, in a two-vehicle crash involving an LAPD patrol car in the Sun Valley area.
The crash was reported just before 2 p.m. Monday on West Saticoy Street and Cleon Avenue, two blocks east of Vineland Avenue. According to a preliminary investigation, the 70-year-old driver was northbound on Cleon Avenue and negotiating a left-hand turn when he collided with an LAPD police car headed eastbound on Saticoy, LAPD Officer Tony Im said.
Authorities said the victim was trapped in his vehicle and died at the scene. Two police officers were also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, an LAPD spokesperson told City News Service.
Details regarding what led to the collision were not immediately clear. The Los Angeles Fire Department said West Saticoy Street in Sun Valley will remain closed between Vineland and Riverton avenues for an unspecified period due to the fatal traffic collision.
