Cats found in filthy U-Haul in Monrovia recovering, some ready for new homes
Nineteen cats found living in filthy conditions inside a stolen U-Haul truck in Monrovia last week are now recovering and some are available for adoption, Pasadena Humane officials announced on Thursday.
The adult cats were discovered Friday by Monrovia police officers responding to a call about the stolen vehicle. After towing the truck, officers found the cats inside surrounded by feces, maggots and debris, officials said.
Pasadena Humane’s Animal Control Officers and veterinary staff were called in to assess the animals and transport them to the shelter.
“While the cats were quite anxious from the experience, they were otherwise mostly in good health. We provided them with any necessary medical care along with a safe and comfortable space where they could rest and recover,” officials said in a statement.
Now, several of the rescued cats are healthy and ready to be adopted, officials said.
“These cats have already overcome so much, and they are ready to find homes where they can feel safe and loved,” the statement read.
Those interested in adopting can go to pasadenahumane.org or call 626-792-7151. To view all adoptable cats, go to pasadenahumane.org/pets.
