Afternoon quake was small, but bigger in Sherman Oaks
An earthquake that was small in magnitude felt a lot bigger for residents in the Sherman Oaks area who experienced the jolt early Tuesday afternoon.
The U.S. Geological Survey measured the 12:22 p.m. shaker at magnitude 2.7 at a depth of 2.3 miles.
According to USGS data, the quake was centered just west of Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks War Memorial Park, south of Magnolia Boulevard and east of Ranchito Avenue.
It was felt by some as a quick series of sharp jolts.
On the USGS’ Community Internet Intensity Map, people reported feeling the quake as far north as San Fernando, into the Chatsworth-Woodland Hills area to the west, in downtown Los Angeles to the east and to Marina Del Rey and Huntington Park to the south.
