Accused killer of ‘American Idol’ music supervisor and husband shot pair with their own gun, DA says

A man accused of killing an “American Idol” music supervisor and her husband in their Encino home shot the two victims with their own gun and allegedly called 911, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday, July 22.

However, police did not find the bodies of Robin Kaye and Thomas Deluca, both 70, until four days later after a neighbor called police requesting a welfare check, police said.

Raymond Boodarian, 22, faces two counts of murder and one count of first-degree residential burglary in their deaths. He has yet to enter a plea to the charges and could face life in prison without the possibility of parole or death if convicted, the DA’s office has said.

DA Nathan Hochman said during a town hall to address public safety in Encino Monday night that Boodarian used his cellphone to call police after the crime and provided his name, which was how he was tracked down, ABC Los Angeles reported.

Kaye and Deluca were found dead in the home on July 14 during a welfare check, but search warrant documents filed by a pair of Los Angeles police officers show two calls for service were made for the home on July 10.

The first call, about 4:10 p.m. that day, was from a neighbor who reported seeing a male attempt to break into the home in the 4700 block of White Oak Avenue, the document says.

About 40 minutes later, a second call came in with the caller saying a suspect broke into the caller’s office and at one point, the caller said, “Please don’t shoot me,” according to the sworn statement with the search warrant, which requested searches of Ring and Nest cameras from both the couple’s and a neighboring home.

It was unclear whether the second call was generated by Boodarian or one of the victims.

On July 14, a neighbor called and asked police to check on the couple after not seeing or hearing from them for a few days, the document says. That is when officers went inside and found the two bodies and notified Valley Bureau Homicide detectives.

Hochman, in a statement announcing the charges last week, said Boodarian entered the home on July 10 and shot the couple multiple times after they arrived home, then fled the area.
