2 officers hurt in Baldwin Park shooting, suspect also shot and is arrested
Two police officers and a suspect were shot in Baldwin Park on Saturday evening, authorities said; and there was a large law enforcement presence in a residential neighborhood as police investigated.
It happened in the 4200 block of Filhurst Avenue, Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Sheila Kelliher told City News Service.
One officer was taken to a hospital by air and the other by ground ambulance. Helicopter video from KCAL showed the officer taken by helicopter sitting up on the stretcher as he was wheeled into the hospital. Information on the conditions of the officers was not immediately available.
The officers responded to a report of shots heard in the neighborhood and were involved in a shooting when they arrived, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Deputy Tracy Koerner told City News Service.
The officers and the suspect were wounded in the gunfire, Koerner said. The suspect was taken to a hospital in unknown condition and taken into custody.
News video from the scene shows a large law enforcement presence, including SWAT officers and armored vehicles, in the residential neighborhood in the area of Filhurst, Palm and Harlan avenues. That area is east of the 605 Freeway and north of the 10 Freeway.
The violence was reported to authorities around 7:23 p.m., the Citizen App reported. Besides the Baldwin Park Police Department, responding agencies included the Sheriff’s Department, the California Highway Patrol and the El Monte Police Department.
