1 Filipino crew missing in sea mishap
THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said on Thursday that a Filipino seafarer was reported missing following a collision between a chemical tanker and a container ship off the northeast coast of England.
The DMW added that reports from a licensed manning agency said the seaman was onboard MV Solong when it collided with oil tanker Stena Immaculate at the North Sea on March 10 at 10 a.m. (United Kingdom time) at the Humber Estuary in Hull, England.
"The seaman was last seen at the bow of the vessel, the area of the ship that caught on fire after the massive explosion," it said.
Eight other crews of MV Solong were rescued and brought to a hotel in London, awaiting repatriation.
Investigation into the disappearance of the seafarer was being undertaken by British authorities in coordination with the flag states of the two ships.
The DMW said it was in close coordination with the family of the missing seaman and his maritime placement agency.
