Ninja, American gamer and top Twitch streamer, revealed that he was recently diagnosed with melanoma, a form of skin cancer.

The online star announced the news on X, saying that he was “still in a bit of shock but want to keep you all updated.”

Ninja—whose real name is Tyler Blevins—said that a few weeks ago, he went to a dermatologist for his annual skin and mole check.

“There was a mole on the bottom of my foot that they wanted to remove just to be careful. It came back as melanoma, but they are optimistic that we caught it in the early stages,” he said.

“I had another dark spot appear near it, so today they biopsied that and removed a larger area around the melanoma with the hopes that under the microscope they will see clear non-melanoma edges and we will know we got it,” he added.

Ninja said he is grateful to have found out his diagnosis early, but also told his followers to take this as a reminder to get skin checkups.

According to the American Cancer Society, melanoma is a rare form of skin cancer but is common among young adults. Its risk factors include ultraviolet ray exposure, having moles, lighter skin, hair, and eye colors, as well as family or personal health histories, among others.
