President Ferdinand ”Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said Tuesday that the country’s intelligence services had been strengthened due to new, emerging threats.

In an ambush interview, Marcos was asked about the effectiveness of the government’s intelligence gathering amid allegations of destabilization plots against the government.

”Well, pinatibay talaga natin ang ating intelligence services. It’s much better than it was before because marami nang ibang bagong kailangan na bantayan,” Marcos told reporters.

The President however added that the intelligence community was more focused on external threats.

”So, yes they’ve been doing a good job and I think that we shouldn’t be talking about intelligence services kasi they’re supposed to be clandestine, eh,” the President explained.

“But maayos naman ang trabaho nila. But then, I think more than anything, they are really directed towards external threats rather than internal, because those are more serious as far as we’re concerned.”

In January, the Armed Forces of the Philippines dismissed allegations of a military destabilization plot against the Marcos administration.

The Philippine National Police also denied these reports of plots against the government. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
