The Philippine women’s football team Filipinas fell short of a podium finish in the 2024 Pinatar Cup after a narrow 1-0 loss to Slovenia in Spain on early Wednesday (Manila time).

Lana Golob put Slovenia ahead by one after connecting the breakthrough goal early in the fifth minute mark before they held off the Filipinas for the rest of the way to complete the win.

The Filipinas finished the tournament without a single goal as they also lost to Scotland, 2-0, to be relegated to the battle for third.

The squad is bannered by the core that made it to the FIFA World Cup last year with Sarina Bolden, Sara Eggesvik, Olivia McDaniel, and Quinley Quezada leading the Mark Torcaso-helmed team for back-to-back fourth place finishes in the four-team invitational tournament.

Finland, meanwhile, copped the gold medal after outlasting Scotland on penalties, 5-4. Oona Sevenius and Martha Thomas scored the goals for their respective teams for a 1-1 deadlock at full time, resulting in a penalty shootout.
