Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena ruled the ISTAF Indoor tournament in Berlin to claim his second gold in this year’s indoor pole vault season.
Obiena needed two attempts to clear 5.93 meters — a new national and Asian record in indoor pole vault. He also holds the Asian record in outdoor pole vault at 6.0 meters which he already cleared twice.
The Filipino pole vaulter also tried clearing 6.03 meters but failed to do so.
Tray Oates of the United States finished second at 5.93 meters, while Robert Sobera of Poland placed third with 5.66 meters.
Obiena recently won the gold in the Memorial Josip Gasparac in Croatia.
The Paris Olympics-bound pole vaulter will see action next on March 3 when he competes in the World Indoor Championship in Glasgow.
